Choose the best engine for dirt bike

To produce energy, combustion is the essential process in both two stroke and four stroke engines. What dirt bike should I get two stroke or four stroke engine dirt bike? Both of these engines are different in regards of the strokes, which is the major difference of these two engines. Strokes are basically described by the movement of the piston.

Two stroke dirt Bike

In general, a two stroke engine completes its whole cycle in two strokes. Within these two strokes following five functions are performed respectively ( intake of fuel, its compression, ignition, combustion and then, exhaust). Two stroke engine starts its cycle with a power stroke. The mixture of air, fuel and oil forces the piston downward until it approaches, the exhaust port, through an opening inside the cylinder. Then piston pressurizes the mixture inside the crankcase. The mixture that was pulled into the crankcase during the previous compression stroke, the one prior to the current power stroke that hasn’t completed yet. When the crank rotates again the mixture which is present in the crankcase moves to the combustion chamber and the piston coming upward compresses this mixture and, here the ignition is produced by the spark plug if the fuel is petrol.

Four stroke dirt bike

And in case of four stroke, this same cycle containing all the functions is completed in four strokes of the piston. Intake, compression, power and exhaust strokes are performed respectively. During intake stroke, the mixture of fuel and air enters through the carburetor and then mixture enters into the cylinder bore as the piston moves downward. In compression stroke the piston compresses the mixture it is compressed between the piston and cylinder head. When the piston reaches the TDC (Top dead center), the mixture is compressed and here mixture is ignited. When the mixture is ignited it release gases which pushes the piston downward with a great push and this stroke is known as the power stroke. And when the piston reaches the bottom dead center again the exhaust valve opens and the gases are removed.

Normally, the busses, cars, trucks uses four stroke engine and the two stroke is used in submarines and scooters.

Dirt bike Vs Street bike

Both of these bikes are two-wheeled, they are physically very different from each other. But still there are some prominent differences that distinguish them from each other on the basis of their material and construction. Some important differences are described below.

Dirt bikeStreet Bike
·         smaller sized ·         Larger sized
·         Light weighted·         Weighted as compared to dirt bikes
·         grippy and knobby tires·        Simple, smooth shaped tires
·         Capable of bearing high suspensions·         Absorb minor suspensions
·         Seats are not comfortable·         Seats are comfortable
·         Smaller brake rotors ·         Heavier braking system due to on road
·         Smaller fuel tanks due to no long travel·         Larger fuel tanks for long journeys
·         Normally made of hard plastic·         Made of heavy metals for stability

What is the stroke?

The movement of the piston of the bike or dirt bike’s engine is named as a stroke. As described above the 2-stroke engine performs two movements to complete two stroke. Similarly, in 4-stroke it performs four movements.

What is the mean of CC?

It stands for cubic centimeters, and in case of engines it tells us about the total volume of the cylinder in which the fuel is being pushed. For example, 250cc dirt bike, 300cc dirt bike etc.
